Research

Work at the Evolutionary Genetics Group EGG at the Anthropological Institute and Museum is aimed at understanding the origins and evolution of human behaviour and cultures. In particular, we are interested in elucidating proximate genetic patterns that may help us to understand ultimate causes for features unique to humans and to reconstruct their evolutionary history.

In order to achieve this, we employ a direct comparative approach by studying great apes and other primates, but also taxa with similar life history parameters, such as cetaceans.
